Recently in "orangecolumbo"
That's what I told OrangeColumbo, who recently suffered a hard-drive failure on his PC that meant he has lost several months worth of work, including his initial demos of some songs that we'd been working on together, and a hundreds of personal photos, and who knows what else.
I didn't really know what else to say, and I still don't - other than the fact that, since I learned the news a couple of days ago, I've been rediscovering many of the tracks we've written together over the years.
Old songs like Carousel. Great songs like Carousel.
We'll be back, my friend!
Yesterday, I received a CD in the post - a CD for which I wrote the lyrics to six of its nine tracks.
The album in question is Carved In Granite by OrangeColumbo. Email the man himself if you'd like to know how you can buy a copy.
And yes, you can safely assume I'm pretty excited to be able to hold the physical artifact in my hands, and to see my name in the liner notes, after only ever having heard digital versions of my words put to music in the past.
Wow!
We had a party at our place on Saturday - one of those up-until-three-in-the-morning, twenty-or-so-people-squeezed-in-a-room parties we like to have from time to time - and among the many highlights of the evening were the wonderful mojitos prepared by none other than OrangeColumbo... which is a good excuse to mention a new song we've written together, A Slap In The Face.
OrangeColumbo: rock/pop with a distinct air of Americana
I'm currently working with OrangeColumbo on putting together a demo that a couple of record labels have expressed serious interest in hearing. We've already written half a dozen tracks together, and are putting the finishing touches to a few more.
Pull The Stars Down was one of the first lyrics I wrote for him. It came to me more or less in one go, while I was drugged up on penicillin to treat a bout of pneumonia. Dirty Fingernails took a little longer.
I'm smudie, a Scot living in Paris.
As a lyricist, I write both for and in collaboration with several local artists who sing in English. Some of the people who have sung my lyrics include Nadj, eliotE & the Ritournelles, General Bye Bye, and Rivkah.
I'm always on the lookout for interesting new projects. Send me an email if you think we could work together.
