"So," you said, "falling in love,
like catching snowflakes on your tongue,
tickles a bit
before it melts, before it's gone."
Well, I guess that's what I love,
the simple charm of your words.
Come on over here
and let me show you just how much.

A clock ticks
like a heart,
keeping this love alive.

Sunless Universe: intelligent dance music

I recently told someone that, as far as I'm concerned, there are two styles of music: Good and Bad. That's the kind of sweeping generalisation that sounds best over a couple of beers, but I still basically believe it to be true - there is excellent music to be found in all genres.

That said, there's no denying that most of the artists I write for would be found in the Pop/Rock sections of a record shop (or at least, they would if such establishments still existed in any meaningful way).

Most, but not all.

My collaboration with Michael Pringuay, the man behind Sunless Universe, began when he replied to an ad I'd placed on a website somewhere seeking partners to create "intelligent dance music". Hopefully, that's exactly what we're doing with tracks like Intricate Machinery.

I'm smudie, a Scot living in Paris.

As a lyricist, I write both for and in collaboration with several local artists who sing in English. Some of the people who have sung my lyrics include Nadj, eliotE & the Ritournelles, General Bye Bye, and OrangeColumbo.

I'm always on the lookout for interesting new projects. Send me an email if you think we could work together.

Here are some of my lyrics:
