the way you pick your music.
What do you think of this,
Tindersticks?
A nice and sunny day.
You pull down the blinds.
You come and sit beside me
and you look me in the eye.
When it falls into place,
no point in asking questions.
Sometimes you gotta dance
when the music plays.
Oh, if you were a boy,
I could be your girlfriend.
And that would be cool.
You could be a boy.
You could be a boy,
except I want to kiss you.
So what do you think,
should we give it a try?
A nice and sunny day.
Sit down on the floor, on the floor
and let the music play.
Come on, look me in the eye.
When it falls into place
no time for asking questions.
Well, sometimes you gotta dance
when the music plays.
Oh, if you were a boy,
I could be your girlfriend.
That would be cool.
Now,
now,
you could be a boy.

This song is performed by Electric Factory.
with a crowd of fashionistas
in a giant loft
in downtown Amsterdam.
I'm busy confessing
how much I love the songs of Momus
to a Japanese girl
in an orange dress.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Like passion,
it doesn't last too long.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Like passion,
it doesn't last too long.
And so it goes.
You're telling me about a shoot in Miami,
so of course
I try to mention Elian.
But it seems that you would rather
raise a toast to Versace.
I turn to my new friend
in her orange dress.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Like passion,
it doesn't last too long.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Pure fashion.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Like passion,
it doesn't last too long.
Pure fashion
doesn't turn me on.
Like passion,
it doesn't last too long.
Pure fashion...

You fill your glass up with bubbles
and drink your way into trouble
until you spill like a puddle
upon the floor.
Here we are
in another bar,
playin' the same,
same old games.
Here we are
in another bar,
playin' the same,
same old games.
Here we are
in another bar,
playin' the same,
same old games.
Bubbles!
You fill your glass up with bubbles
and drink your way into trouble.
I found you under the rubble
of a metaphor.
Can't you see that you are going crazy,
that your head is full of bubbles?
Can't you see that you are going crazy,
that your head is full of bubbles?
Can't you see that you are going crazy,
that your head is full of bubbles?
Can't you see that you are going crazy,
that your head is full of bubbles?

when you leave them there
in the shade.
Baby, love's the same.
Over time,
oh, you and I
see its light grow pale."
Is that all
that you have to say:
that, as petals fall,
so love goes away?
Me and you,
we've both been fools
but it's not too late.
Flowers, they
may fade away,
but kiss me, babe,
and I might come back today.

This is exciting news for me, as I saw Jen in concert a few years ago at what I believe was one of the first gigs I attended here in Paris, and I'm a real fan of her voice.
At the moment, it's looking like Jen will be performing on at least Outer Space Boy, and potentially some other tracks as well.
I can't wait to hear the result.
Here are some new songs, waiting for someone to sing them. Could it be you?
The music for Ashtray was written by Cyril Martin of Electric Factory, but we both agreed that this particular song didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the Electric Factory project and would be better off living a life of its own.
Cat Lover is just some words and a melody for now.
Electric Factory: "polished pop, sweet soul, eclectic electro, love and lovers, good food, fine wine, smoky bars..."
Electric Factory was the first group to put my words to music, and the first to invite me into a recording studio to make sure the singer did justice to what I'd written (and didn't make any of the typical pronunciation mistakes French singers can fall victim to when singing in English).
In keeping with the fun nature of the project, most of the lyrics I write for Electric Factory are quite light-hearted. Outer Space Boy, for instance, tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a boy from another planet.
I'm smudie, a Scot living in Paris.
As a lyricist, I write both for and in collaboration with several local artists who sing in English. Some of the people who have sung my lyrics include Nadj, eliotE & the Ritournelles, General Bye Bye, and OrangeColumbo.
I'm always on the lookout for interesting new projects. Send me an email if you think we could work together.

- "Songs in search of a singer"
Your cigarette,
my ashtray
and a single wisp of smoke
that rises up in the air
like a song.
Long
after you have gone,
I still taste tobacco on my lips,
the embers of our kiss,
a kiss that burns forever.
Two glasses on the table
and some wine left in the bottle.
Last night, we gave up halfway through
for other pleasures
just as sweet.
We left the same CD
playing all night
on repeat.
Your cigarette,
my ashtray
and a single wisp of smoke
that rises up in the air
like a song.

A boy from outer space,
from a planet far away,
kissed me today.
But that doesn't mean
that his skin was green.
It doesn't mean anything.
Kiss me,
outer space boy.
Fly me
to the moon
tonight.
A boy from outer space,
from a planet far away,
kissed me today.
Help me count the stars.
Show me which one is yours,
which one will be ours.
Kiss me,
outer space boy.
Fly me
to the moon
tonight.
Kiss me,
outer space boy.
Fly me
to the moon
tonight.
Remember,
this is just a song.
I don't kiss Martians every night
(or every day)
but sometimes I kiss frogs!
Oh, outer space,
the moon and stars.
Des années lumière nous séparent.
Oh, outer space,
the moon and stars.
Des années lumière nous séparent.
Kiss me,
outer space boy.
Fly me
to the moon
tonight.
Space boy,
you're my space boy.
Space boy,
fly me to the moon
and stars.
